For our client Mediasoft in Slovenia (for BiVision USA) we developed a Java web application used to display dynamically created map in a browser. We used MapInfos MapXtream API and libraries as base and then changed them to provide clients request. Data for map is stored in files on a web server and as tables in Oracle spatial database, and is used to calculate and draw map. Map can be changed/adjusted in web browser by user to display specific requests (ranged themes, relations between objects on the map, selecting objects with specific properties).
